“And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” (KJV Bible, 1769, Gen 2:18) This bible passage suggests that a man needs a woman to be his companion for him not to be alone. This is where the idea of romantic relationship came from and since ages ago, humanity has involved romantic relationships into our life. A romantic relationship is defined as specific expressions of affection and intimacy between partners – mutually and voluntarily (Collins, et al., 2009).
While the idea of romantic relationships is not foreign to all of us, nowadays, it seemed that this has been normalized to kids below the legal age. The influence of social media and the leniency of parenting style has made this possible. While the idea of romantic relationship is normal and acceptable in the society, does this applies to kids below the legal age – 18 years old? While the world is facing various political, environmental and social issues, several studies and articles discuss about the correlation of teenage romantic relationship to unwanted pregnancy and the increase of cases related to mental health and suicides.
